12CO/13CO abundance ratio toward zeta Ophiuchi
Description
A system of ultraviolet absorption lines has been used to determine the 12CO/13CO abundance ratio toward zeta Ophiuchi as well as certain physical properties of the interstellar material. The Copernicus and International Ultraviolet Explorer observations imply a rather low CO isotope ratio of 55 +- 11 and a 12CO column density of 2.4 +- 0.3 x 1015 cm-2. Further analysis implies a rather small velocity dispersion of 0.46 +- 0.15 km s-1 and a kinetic temperature in excess of 70 K
