Determination of 107Pd by molecular recognition sorbent AnaLig Pd - 02

Description
Every human activity leaves waste. Humans produce hundreds to billions of tonnes of waste annually. Some wastes are hazardous in terms of toxicity or radioactivity. Radioactive wastes originating from nuclear energy include long-term, so-called critical, radionuclides, which have to be declared before being deposited in the national repository of radioactive waste. One of the critical radionuclides is 107Pd, which is determined by various methods. This work describes and provides a method of determination of 107Pd present in radioactive waste by the molecular recognition sorbent AnaLig Pd - 02. Maximum capacity of Pd2+ was 73.1 mg·g-1 of Analig sorbent in 1 mol·dm-3 HCl and 52.7 mg·g-1 of Analig sorbent in 1 mol·dm-3 HNO3. The maximum capacity of Analig sorbent decreases as the concentration of acids increases, that's why we have chosen 50 cm3 of 9 mol·dm-3 HCl as eluent. For monitoring of potential interferent 137Cs was used model sample of which individual fractions were measured by HPGe detector with the purpose of determination of yields. Through this it was found out that 137Cs does not absorb on the column unlike the 107Pd. (authors)
