Hierarchical scales, dynamical breaking, compositeness and unification

Description

We discuss a dynamical scheme in which scales associated with fermion and gauge boson masses all have a common and calculable origin traced to a unified theory. The scheme requires that, at some level, quarks and leptons be composite and that the breaking of the electroweak theory occur dynamically. A simple relation between intragenerational mass splittings and fine structure present in the massive spectrum, at the composite scale, is detailed. Constraints, on the fermion representations of the preonic theory are obtained and some toy models are discussed. (orig.)
