Oxidation behaviour of mixed uranium cerium nitride microspheres

Description
Kinetics of the oxidation of (U, Ce)N microspheres containing 15 mole% cerium have been studied under non-isothermal conditions using a thermo balance. Intermediate products were analysed by chemical and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. Results were compared with the data on oxidation of UN microspheres under identical conditions. A mechanism was proposed to explain the difference in observations for the oxidation of these two materials with respect to reaction rate, intermediate and the final products.
