Experimental features of inclusive (π,π') and (π,πp) reactions
Description
For the purpose of this talk, pion-nuclear reactions are classified as follows: (1) inclusive (π/sup +/-/,π/sup +/-'), (2) inclusive (π/sup +/-,π/sup -/+/, (3) inclusive and exclusive (π/sup +/-/,π/sup -/+p), (4) inclusive (π/sup +/-,π0. With the exception of double charge exchange (DCX) each of these reactions may be divided into single and multiple pion-nucleon interaction processes, although the author will explain what is meant in detail. The author discusses the present knowledge of these reactions in turn, in the context of the π- and Δ-nuclear dynamics as a whole. In each case signatures of interactions of the recoiling Δ are looked for. The A-dependences of the various reactions are examined, the relations between the different isospin channels explored, and finally there is a brief comment on the use of isotopic comparisons as a diagnostic tool for understanding. 16 references, 13 figures, 5 tables
