Performance of new TOF hodoscopes at CEBAF
Creators
Description
Time of flight hodoscopes have been constructed for the High Momentum Spectrometer (HMS) and Short Orbit Spectrometer (SOS). These spectrometers are the primary equipment for endstation C at CEBAF. The applications required good time resolution, so fast 8-stage tubes (Phillips XP2282B), fast scintillator (BC404), and relatively thin scintillator (1 cm) for high photoelectron number were employed. Although their primary purpose is to provide a clean, efficient trigger for single arm and coincidence experiments, their excellent time resolution also makes them useful for particle identification. Since July 1994 the installed arrays have been tested with scattered beams of electrons, pions, and protons over a wide range of momenta. The performance of the hodoscopes will be discussed
