The possible perspective of pressure-tube reactors
Description
The RBMK reactor safety may be increased owing to removing from core the graphite, replaced by a gas, and owing to zirconium replacement in fuel element cans and channel tubes by steel. Graphite removal increases the neutron leakage, but does not change the effective multiplication factor, because the neutron capture in graphite disappears. Zirconium replacement by steel decreases the neutron leakage owing to growth of neutron absorption in fuel elements and channel tubes

Повышения безопасности канальных реакторов можно достичь за счет вывода из активной зоны РБМК графита, заменяемого газом, и замены циркония оболочек твэлов и канальных труб на сталь. Удаление графита повышает утечку нейтронов, но не изменяет эффективный коэффициент размножения, так как исчезает захват нейтронов в графите. Замена циркония на сталь уменьшает утечку нейтронов за счет роста их поглощения в твэлах и канальных трубахAdditional details
