Evacuation by zeolite pump of electron gun with foil window

  • 1. All-Union Electrical Engineering Institute, Moscow (USSR)

Description

It was shown that an adsorption pump can be used to maintain a working vacuum in a dismountable electron gun with output of a wide beam through a foil window. The gun had a directly heated tungsten cathode, a foil window area of 280 cm2, an inner volume of 20 liters, and a total length of vacuum rubber seals of 4 meters. The adsorption pump contained 0.7 kg of grade 5A zeolite. After storage for 60 hours the operating time of the gun at 125 KeV and 20 mA was 1.5 hours and was limited by reduction of the pump evacuation rate. The preparation time of the gun was 7.5 hours before storage and 1 hour after storage. Gun preparation and startup values are tabulated
