Laser radiological protection. A bibliographic review

Description

Although being mostly concerned with ionizing radiations (X, γ radiation, neutrons, α, β particle) the health physicist must also be able to advise personnel on the effects of laser radiation. These new and intricate problems are briefly examined. The biological effects of the exposure of the various organs, eyes more particularly, to laser beams are briefly described and problems relating to the evaluation of risks (operational limits), the prevention and the methods developed for the protection of personnel are reviewed

Abstract (French)

Bien que ses activites concernent en majeure partie les rayonnements ionisants (rayons X, γ, neutrons, particules α, β, etc) l'agent charge d'assurer la radioprotection, doit aussi etre en mesure de conseiller le personnel sur les effets des rayonnements lasers. Ces problemes nouveaux et complexes sont brievement examines. Apres une courte description des effets biologiques, lies a l'exposition a des faisceaux lasers, notamment pour l'oeil, on passe en revue les problemes associes a l'estimation des risques (limites operationnelles), les mesures de prevention et de protection mises au point
