Preparation and crystal structure of the compound UAsSb
Description
The ternary compound UAsSb, prepared by the reaction between stoichiometric quantities of powdered uranium monoarsenide and elementary antimony at 7000C, crystallizes in the Cu2Sb-type crystal structure (tetragonal system, space group P4/nmm-D7sub(4h)) with a=4.152+-0.002 A and c=8.463+-0.004 A. Intensity calculations for this compound indicates the best agreement if the following atomic positions are assumed: 2 U in 2(c) with the variable parameter zsub(U)=0.295, 2 As in 2(c) with zsub(As)=0.641 and 2 Sb in 2(a).
