Transport properties and conduction mechanism analysis for YBa2Cu4O8 at elevated temperature

  • 1. Northwestern Univ., Evanston, IL (United States)

Description

Equilibrium transport properties and conduction mechanisms for YBa2Cu4O8 were investigated at elevated temperature via in-situ electrical property measurements (conductivity and Seebeck coefficient). YBa2Cu4O8 was shown to be intrinsically mixed-valent like magnetite. Two conduction mechanisms, one metallic and the other activated, were observed within the YBa2Cu4O8 stability range. Conduction boundaries between the two mechanisms were established via isothermoelectric analysis. Comparisons can be made to behavior in the YBa2Cu3O7-y phase
