Liquid metal cooled fast reactors development in France

Description

A brief history of LMFBR reactor development in France has been stated. Described are specifications and the experience of operation of 24 MW Rapsodie sodium-cooled reactor (1960 - 1967) and 250 MW Phenix sodium-cooled reactor (1965 - 1973) as well as characteristics of 1200 MW Phenix reactor under construction. It is shown that France takes the first place in the world in this field of atomic power industry due to great progress in development and construction of fast breeder reactors with liquid-metal coolant. The Super-Phenix project is now supposed to improve and on its base to create facilities of 1800-1900 MWe. Creation of 40 MWe experimental carbide fuel fast reactor is being planned in 1980-1984 within the framework of the plan of perspective improving fuel cycle
