Peculiarities of stochastic magnetic structure of laser-sputtered Tb-Fe amorphous films

Description

Methods of laser diffractometry, electron diffraction and electron microscopy were used to investigate structure and magnetic properties of Tb-Fe films for magneto-optical recording. The films were produced by target sputtering with a pulsed laser beam and deposition on KBr substrates. All the films obtained were amorphous. It was shown that a magnetization vector M had as a planar constituent so a normal one and they both made it possible to accomplish magnetic recording. The roles of each anisotropy components were discussed and the model of Tb-Fe film magnetic structure was proposed. Analysis of magnetic heterogeneities and their interactions permitted a conclusion on the possibility of production of magneto-optical recording media with elements in the order of 1 micron
