Principle of the thermonuclear fusion by inertial confinement: required characteristics of the deuterium-tritium plasma and of the high power lasers to be used Development of high power lasers: active media used; amplifiers; frequency conversion; beam quality; pulse conditioning; existing large systems. The laser-matter interaction: collision and collective interaction of the laser radiation with matter; transport of the absorbed energy; heating and compression of deuterium-tritium; diagnoses and their comparison with the numerical simulation of the experiment; performances. Principes de la fusion thermonucleaire par confinement inertiel: caracteristiques du plasma deuterium-tritium a atteindre et des lasers de grande puissance a mettre en oeuvre. Developpements des lasers de grande puissance: milieux actifs employes; amplificateurs; conversion de frequence; qualite du faisceau; mise en forme de l'impulsion. Grandes installations existantes. L'interaction laser-matiere: interactions collisionnelle et collective du rayonnement du laser avec la matiere; transport de l'energie absorbee; chauffage et compression du deuterium-tritium. Diagnostics mis en oeuvre et leur confrontation avec la simulation numerique de l'experience. Performances atteintes. Bilan et perspectives: difficultes a surmonter. Lasers megajoules.
