Effect of particle size on the thermodynamics of hydrogen storage properties of magnesium

  • 1. Chemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

This paper reports that the effect of lowering of particle size on the hydrogen absorption properties of magnesium powder without addition of heavy metal catalyst. The hydrogen storage capacity increases with decrease in particle size. The thermodynamic properties of Mg-based alloys are basically unchanged after ball milling also. In the present paper, the effect of lowering of particle size on the hydrogen absorption properties of magnesium powder without addition of heavy metal catalyst have been studied. Wet milling can have profound effect on the hydrogen storage properties of magnesium. To understand the effect, two different sets of magnesium powder were prepared by wet milling of magnesium hydride with different milling times. The thermodynamic analyses were done in detail to get insight about the hydrogen absorption-desorption behaviour
