Are the new mesons q bar q or meson meson bound states (deusons)

Description

The new mesons which cannot find a place within the q bar q model, the f0(1370),f0(1525),f0(1590),f2(1520),ν(1440), and f1(1420), are discussed and it is suggested that some of these are deuteronlike two-meson bound states, deusons. The contribution from one pion exchange to the binding energy between two ground state mesons is calculated. The calculations are most reliable in the heavy meson sector where one-pion exchange alone is strong enough to form six deuteron-like B bar B* and B*bar B* composites of D bar D* and D*bar D* states bound by pion exchange alone can be expected near the thresholds. For the light quark sector one needs additional short range attraction to form bound states. Assuming this, the quantum numbers and masses of the above mentioned new mesons are the same as those expected for the deusonic states composed of either (ρ±ω)/√2,K bar K* or K*bar K*. Possibily the X(3100) could be the first heliumlike four-meson state composed of one K* and three ω's or ρ's, while X(3250) could be composed of K*bar K*ρω. A crucial test of the scheme is to find one of the predicted D bar D* or D*bar D* deusons. copyright 1995 American Institute of Physics
