The Ferney-Voltaire (01) works: in the Ain department, a unique heat network in France. 40 km of geothermal probes to support the anergy network

Description

This article presents the case of the commune of Ferney-Voltaire, at the border between France and Switzerland, which is committed into a low-carbon urban development which is to be supplied in energy by a 5. generation network based on an innovative heat network made of a tempered water loop or 'anergy' network (the principle of such a network is presented). This network is based on the recovery of the residual heat produced by the CERN particle accelerator. Some characteristics of the projects, actors and funding sources are indicated. A map of the network is provided. The article more particularly presents and describes the installation of numerous geothermal probes along the 40 kilometres of the network, in order to store the exceeding heat produced in summer, and to regulate the loop temperature and to use it depending on cold or heat needs
