10 years of field experience with high-AVT water chemistry

  • 1. Siemens AG Unternehmensbereich KWU, Erlangen (Germany)

Description

At the end of 1981, the first German PWR started the commercial operation of using High-AVT secondary side chemistry. Up to the end of 1992 this plant generated approx. 105 millions of MWhrs at an average load factor of 87.2% without any steam generator tubing degradation. ECT inspections in all plants started under High-AVT chemistry, which did not show any tubing degradation caused by corrosion mechanisms. This clearly confirms that proper harmonization of material, design and water chemistry concepts of the secondary side systems consequently result in excellent steam generator performance.
