Enhanced volatilization of uranium dioxide in presence of water vapor

  • 1. Glushko Thermocenter of RAS, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

Thermodynamic functions of UO2(OH)2, UO2(OH), UO(OH), and UOH molecules were calculated in the 'rigid rotator - harmonic oscillator' approximation using estimated molecular parameters and enthalpies of formation. Equilibrium vapor composition of the UO2 - H2O system was calculated for the temperatures in the range of 2500-3500 K at vapor pressure around 1 bar. The results of calculations show a dramatic increase in uranium dioxide volatility due to formation of large amounts of UOxHY and UO3 molecules in presence of water vapor. (orig.)
