Study of 48Ti induced reactions in lead region using statistical model calculations

Description

One of the key objectives of experimental nuclear physics is to understand the reaction mechanism involved in fusion of two nuclei. The energetic heavy ion beams dissipate large amount of linear and angular momenta making it possible to fuse two heavy nuclei and form a composite system having high energy , mass and charge. This idea inspired the researchers to form the super-heavy elements (SHE). This search in fact led to the discovery of some non-compound nuclear (NCN) processes such as fast-fission, quasi-fission in heavy mass regions which suppresses the formation of compound nucleus (CN) and hence super-heavy elements. In the present study, theoretical calculations have been done to determine the pre-scission neutron multiplicity and fission excitation functions for the 48Ti + 142,150Nd reactions populating 190,198Pb respectively in the excitation energy range of 30-90 MeV for both the reactions. The experimental ER cross-section data for these systems has been reported in reference. Theoretical calculations of fission cross-section and pre-scission neutron multiplicity are done using Statistical Model code VECSTAT. Statistical model calculations assumes that the reactions forms a fully equilibrated CN and contribution from the NCN processes is negligible
