The contradictions in nuclear trade law

International law applicable to trade in nuclear materials, equipment and technology still lacks homogeneity and its implementation gives rise to some controversy. This is explained by the fact that this law, whose pivot is the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, reflects several contradictions: the need to restrict communication of sensitive information and the will to encourage international cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy; acknowledgement of the differences in the status of the countries concerned and the principle of non-discrimination established by the Treaty; a selective policy for imports and the aim to achieve free access to nuclear technology.
