Comparison of the German rule PAS1078 with MCNPX calculations
Description
The publicly-available German specification PAS1078 dating from January 2008 provides rules for the construction of structural radiation protection in the case of medical accelerator facilities for proton therapy. The major points of PAS1078 will be presented. Its method for the estimation of shielding thicknesses will be compared with the results of Monte Carlo calculations executed with MCNPXTM. Especially, it is aimed at the comparison of the shielding curves for various energies, their angular dependency, and the proposed approximation method for scattering through mazes. The results provide suitable knowledge concerning the precision of the PAS1078. (authors)
