Nuclear cogeneration application for water splitting at CO2 conversion to be urea fertilizer
Description
Study have been conducted on the application of nuclear cogeneration for water splitting at conversion of CO2 into urea. The method used is literature studies. The purpose of the study is to analyze the applications of nuclear cogeneration for water splitting on the conversion of CO2 into urea as an alternative to urea production technology. The study shows that the process of nuclear water splitting is possible to convert CO2 into urea. With this method, the use of natural gas as a raw material, energy source of heat, steam and electricity are not needed anymore. Production with a capacity of 1,725 tons of urea per day, will save natural gas of about to 21.25 million MMBTU per year which is equivalent to a reduction CO2 emissions by 1.24 million tons per year. The process can also utilize 596,357 tonnes per year CO2 emissions which comes from coal power plants with a power of 90 MWe, as a raw material for the formation of urea. Supply of thermal energy, steam and electricity that comes from HTGR with capacity of 2×600 MWt can meet the needs of the production process, with the excess electricity of 140 MWe. In addition to the fertilizer production of 1,725 tons per day, it is also generated electric energy without CO2 emissions from the coal power plant (90 MWe) and HTGR (140 MWe) with a total of 230 MWe that can be connected to the grid.
