Dynamical atmospheres of earth-like protoplanets

Full text: We present time-dependent atmospheres of accreting earth-like planets (project S 11602-N16) as part of Austrian FWF National Research Program Pathways to Habitability. Such atmospheres of protoplanets orbiting in protostellar disks are calculated using an implicit, time-dependent, radiation hydrodynamics code. Assuming spherical symmetry we include convective energy transport as well as the various interactions between the gas, dust particles and the radiation field. The structures are strongly affected by the properties of the dust particles and extend outwards up to the Hill-radius. An ongoing accretion of planetesimals delivers an additional energy input. Time-dependent outer boundary conditions simulate the interaction with an evolving disk environment. (author)
