Accelerator-based searches for neutrino oscillations

In the past 15 years searches for neutrino oscillations --- a principal avenue to neutrino mass and mixing --- have utilized all available neutrino sources to search wherever it was possible to do so, without significant empirical or theoretical guidance. Recently, tentative, but relatively strong suggestions regarding neutrino mass and mixing have emerged from both solar neutrino and atmospheric neutrino data. Furthermore, evidence in favor of at least some hot dark matter provides theoretically motivated regions of the neutrino oscillation parameters. From the two regions of parameter space delineated by this information come incentives for two types of accelerator based, narrowly aimed searches for neutrino oscillations. These will be discussed and illustrated by specific examples
