Unusual association of medullary carcinoma and toxic adenoma of the thyroid

The concurrent occurrence of medullary thyroid carcinoma and hyperthyroidism secondary to a hyperfunctioning thyroid adenoma in a 53 year old man is described. This represents the first report of the association of these two thyroid abnormalities which might be fortuitous
