Accuracy of CT scanning in detection of recurrent ovarian carcinoma correlation with second-look surgery

CT examinations in 37 patients with ovarian carcinoma were compared with the results of second-look surgery. Only patients operated within 2 months of their CT were reviewed. CT was considered normal in 29 and suspicious in eight cases. Surgery revealed disease in 22 and was normal in 15. Of the 22 surgically positive cases, seven had microscopic disease. Eighteen of these patients were studied between 1985 and 1986 utilizing rapid scanning, thin sections, and bowel preparation.
