Quality control procedures applied to environmental radioassay in Italy

A nationwide surveillance program of environmental radioactivity is carried out in Italy under the coordination of the Protection and Safety Division of the National Agency for Nuclear Energy. The need for reliable data on measurements made by different laboratories prompted the Continental Contamination Laboratory of CNEN to make intercomparisons of samples routinely analyzed as air filters, fallout rainwater dry residue, and surface water. The results, as well as conclusions and experience gained through this work, are reported. (author)
