Proton emission of mirror nuclei of neutron halo nuclei

Description

The study of proton radioactivity has been enriched with the advent of radioactive nuclear beams. The recent experimental discovery of 11O- the mirror nuclei of 2n halo nucleus 11Li as 2p emitter prompted us to search for similar other candidates in the extreme limits of the nuclear chart. The investigation was carried out by studying the Q value systematics where the mass excess was evaluated using an extended Bethe-Weizsacker mass formula, analyzing the potential energy surface (PES) to locate for the favorable cluster + core configuration and calculating the half-life by a recently reported empirical formula for 1p/2p emission of the mirror nuclei. Our initial study on the known halo nuclei suggested the preference for 2p emission of all the mirror nuclei of 2n halo nuclei; however, such preference of 1p emission is not observed for 1n halo nuclei. The Q value systematics indicated that all the mirror nuclei of neutron-rich halo nuclei have a preference for proton emission. The PES analysis revealed preference for proton cluster for all mirror nuclei. The effect of angular momentum and Q value on the half-life for proton emission of mirror nuclei was studied using the empirical formula. The results from the extended study applied for the proton emission characteristics of mirror nuclei of elements near the neutron drip line will be presented. (author)
