Description
A differential equation relating the self-consistent potential U(r) to the nucleon density rho-tilde(r) in a nuclear system is derived. Certain properties of the single-particle potential are given which, together with the equation derived, furnish a criterion for the suitability of phenomenological potentials chosen for the description of real nuclear systems
