Ions of superheavy elements
Description
The results of Dirac-Slater calculations for ions immersed in a dielectric medium with the same dielectric constant as water are reviewed for elements near the proton number 114 and 126. The dielectric made each of the ions more stable and reduced the ionization potential by about 40 per cent. Geochemical speculations about E126 are related to its large ionic size and its predicted similarity to europium, and lanthanum. (author)
