Cosmogenic isotopes in the GRIP ice core, Greenland

Description
The European GRIP and the American GISP II ice cores provide the most detailed records of environmental parameters over the last 200'000 years of all the ice cores drilled so far. AMS measurements of cosmogenic isotopes are extremely useful in order to reconstruct the history of precipitation rate as well as the modulation of the cosmic ray flux by solar wind and the geomagnetic. Calculation of the 36Cl flux shows rather constant values except at around 37 ky BP when the flux increased by about a factor of two as found earlier in Antarctic ice cores and a mediterranean sediment core, and a decrease in the lowest part of the GRIP core most likely due to (T1/2=301 ky).
