Radiological protection of the medical personnel in Switzerland

Description
The recommended occupational dose limits of ICRP 1990 have been adopted by national legislation as early as in 1994, and experience is very positive. Dose monitoring and registration services for medical staff and personnel cover at present about 42 000 persons, 12 000 of them working in the field of dentistry (the total of occupationally exposed persons is 60 000). This corresponds to 0.6% of the population. The national dose registry can furnish at any time up-to-date information and personal dosimetry data. The responsible public authorities emphasize that attention should be focused on two important aspects, i.e. relevant training of medical personnel, and equipment quality assurance. (orig./CB)
Abstract (German)
Bereits 1994 wurden in der Schweiz die von der ICRP 1990 empfohlenen Dosisgrenzwerte gesetzlich verankert. Die bisher gemachten Erfahrungen ergeben ein positives Bild. Im medizinischen Bereich werden etwa 42.000 (von insgesamt 60.000) beruflich strahlenexponierte Personen ueberwacht. Dies sind 0,6% der Bevoelkerung. Davon arbeiten 12.000 in der Zahnmedizin. Das zentrale Dosisregister erlaubt eine stets aktuelle Darstellung der Personendosimetrie. Die zustaendigen Behoerden fordern fuer die Ausbildung des Personals und fuer den Zustand der Geraete groessere Beachtung. (orig.)Additional details
