Possible broad 3π resonance near 1900 MeV/c coupling to N anti Δ
Description
Work on the possible existence of narrow enhancements (approximately 10 MeV or less) in the anti N--N total cross section near threshold was considered at this conference. Recently published data on the interaction π-p → pπ+π-π- are shown; numbers of events are plotted vs m(π+π-π-). A broad enhancement was seen in the 1900-MeV region; a fit to a smooth background plus a Breit--Wigner enhancement gave M = 1895 +- 19 MeV/c2 with a width of 123 +- 66 MeV/c2. A few brief comments on the data are made. (3 figures) (U.S.)
