High-spin excitation modes in transitional nuclei studied with (HI,xn) reactions
Description
New aspects on rotational bands in odd-A transitional nuclei are discussed. To explain such bands a new coupling-scheme, the so called rotation-aligned coupling-scheme has recently been introduced for an odd particle in a high-spin orbital coupled to a moderately deformed rotating core. It turned out that this model described with great success many experimental data which since then have been accumulated. New data on high-spin states in classical vibrational nuclei are presented and it is shown that in the yrast bands of such nuclei discontinuities occur which cannot be explained within the frame work of the vibrational model.
