Cyclic variations of the correltion between the interplanetary magnetic field sector structue, high-speed streams, and geomagnetic disturbance

Description

Cyclic variations of the correlations between the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) sector structure, high-speed streams of the solar wind (HSS SW), and geomagnetic disturbance are investigated. The best correlation between IMF sector structure and geomagnetic disturbance is observed in the period of IMF sector structure stability on the phase of solar activity decrease. In the period from 1964 to 1979 yrs high concentration of HSS SW is registered near the boundaries of IMF sector structure. On the first and second day after the Earth passing the boundaries of IMF sector structure the number of HSS SW is much more (2-3 times) than before Earth passing
