Remote checking of nuclear-reactor vessel pipes
Description
The authors describe an optical system for the remote inspection and testing of reactor pipes where the radiation hazard prohibits hands-on inspection. The system consists of a visual probe, an optical fiber communication link, and a remote control panel. Results of performance and resolution testing have verified the reliability and accuracy of the system in bench and full scale simulations. A transducer can be fitted onto the probe for ultrasonic testing as well
