Settling analysis of coal slurry at Korba thermal power station

Description
Various alternatives for removal of suspended solids from coal slurry at Korba Thermal Power Station were investigated. Based on laboratory studies, removal of suspended solids in plain sedimentation with detention time 2.00 hr followed by chemical sedimentation (alternative III) appeared to be a feasible treatment. The settled coal particles can also be reused for burning and thus on an average 1324 tonne (Rathore) of coal/year can be prevented to go outside environment. It is also interesting to note that the calorific value of the settled coal dust is approximately 4200 K cal/kg which shows that the settled coal is of good quality.
