Reactor physics in U.S. power generation. Key role in a changing industry
Description
Significant advances in physics methods have been required to accurately predict performance of advanced fuel/core designs now in operation. Major developments over the last decade and current issues facing the industry provide the motivation for additional innovations in Reactor Physics. Developments in key areas of reactor physics development are reviewed. With advances in fuel management and the erosion of margins, core design is no longer solely limited by safety and licensing limits, but core designers are also require to take a broader role in addressing other fuel performance issues. In addition, new physics applications have been developed to support plant operations with the objective of improving capacity factors. (author)
