The latest generation of Westinghouse nuclear plant designs
Description
Westinghouse has, over the past 30 years, developed a wide variety of safe, reliable and economical pressurized water reactor designs that meet the requirements of domestic and international customers. Seventy one plants using Westinghouse nuclear steam supply systems (NSSS) and fifty five supplied by its associates are in operation throughout the world. The design of the NSSSs and the standard four-loop reactor vessel is outlined. The testing of tubing materials, computerized instrumentation and the plant piping support systems are also mentioned. New plant design features are tabulated. The emphasis of the Westinghouse design is on simplicity, ease of construction and passive safety systems such as natural circulation cooling. (UK)
