Nuclear orientation of 136Cs: Reorientation in the 0.3S 7- isomer of 136Ba

  • 1. Oxford Univ. (UK). Clarendon Lab.

Description

Properties of the decay of 136Cs to 136Ba are deduced from low temperature nuclear orientation studies. Of particular interest is the observation of attenuated anisotropy in transitions from the 7-0.3 s isomer at 2031 keV. This is ascribed to the presence of mixed electric/magnetic interaction in this state which is not collinear with the parent 136Cs quantisation axis. (orig.)
