Investigation of the AM Her X-ray double system. 1

The spectra of AM Her in the state of low brightness are studied. Equivalent widths and line profiles of all the lines are strongly variable with the orbital period phase, and the variations are different from those when the star was at the maximum brightness. Lines of different elements vary with phase in different ways. Two tendencies are found which are characterized by sharp anomalies of spectral characteristics in the phase range phisub(pol)=0.0-0.5 and 0.4. With increasing brightness, the emission line profiles grew narrow and became practically the same for the lines of all the elements. A conclusion on the absence of the accretion disk in the system AM Her is drawn
