Monitor for a charged particle pulse beam

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The description is given of the instrument easy in fabrication used for monitoring the pulse beams of charged particles. The operation of the monitor is based on the operating principle of a current transformer. The current transformer winding is included in the shock-excited circuit and a beam current pulse excites oscillations in this circuit, their amplitude being proportional to the charge passed or to the number of particles. The monitor coil toroid is assembled of five stacked ferrite rings, type M 2000 NN-K 125x80x12. The electronic circuitry employed consists of standard units designed in the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The instrument is used for monitoring the proton beam with the energy of 70 GeV and intensity of 1010 particles per cycle at a cycle duration of 9 s and a beam current pulse length of about 20 ns. The accuracy of intensity measurements is better than 10 per cent
