Spin relaxation and electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations
Description
In the spirit of the Welton calculation of the Lamb shift, it is shown that one can reasonably expect an electron spin relaxation on a time scale of the order of 10-16 seconds. The calculations are made in the context of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics where radiation damping and the zero-point magnetic vacuum field are added to the formal Larmor equation
