Angular distribution of neutrons from a deformed nucleus

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Sciences VINCA, Belgrade, (Yugoslavia)

Description

The deformation dependence of the neutron angular emission is introduced in the framework of standard evaporation theory. It is shown that the neutron emission is enhanced in direction perpendicular to larger axis. For nuclei with high fission barriers, all orientations are equally probable and the neutron emission is therefore isotropic. For deformed actinide nuclei the pre- scission neutron emission is enhanced perpendicular to the preferred direction (symmetry axis direction), which lowers the multiplicity of pre-scission neutrons and increases the multiplicity of post-scission neutrons.
