This paper reports on the first IMPELA accelerator, a 10 MeV, 50 kW accelerator for industrial irradiation, under development at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. The control system uses contemporary, industrial control technology to provide an irradiator that is robust, reliable and easy to operate. The conventional controls are augmented with custom-designed electronics to achieve the required performance
