Isotopic method for determining nonmetallic oxide inclusions (products of the deoxidation process) in steel

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Research, Warsaw (Poland)

Description

An isotopic method for determining oxide inclusions in steel, formed during the process of steel deoxidation with aluminium and silicon is described. As there are no adequate radioactive isotopes of both mentioned elements, substitute isotopic tracers have been used. The selection of these tracers has been based on theoretical considerations and experimental verification. Results obtained from 15 laboratory steel melts are presented together with their statistical interpretation. (author)
