Tantalum dust as a contrast agent for laryngography and bronchography

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Radiatsionnoj Gigieny, Leningrad (USSR)

Description

The data are presented on the tantalum chemical and physiological inertness, tantalum powder ability to absorb X-rays, selective locatization of its particles on the mucous membrane of larynx, bronchi, trachea and the fast removal of the preparation, are presented. This is an advantage of tantalum powder as compared with other modern contrast agents. It is established that a prolonged tantalum stay in the respiratory tract is conditioned by tight filling and the penetration of its particles in alveoles. If bronchography is carried out correctly no complications take place
