Nuclear shell model in terms of pseudo spin-orbit doublets and pseudo SU(3) coupling schemes

Creators

Description

Spectra for a system of identical nucleons filling levels of a pseudo spin-orbit doublet, l/j, (l + 2)/j + 1 are examined. Formalism is introduced to show that the energetically favored pair states are the pseudo spin singlet states. The simplified pseudo spin-orbit coupling scheme calculations are found to compare well with detailed shell model calculations. The case of several nearly degenerate single particle states is discussed in terms of the pseudo SU(3) scheme. (9 figures, 2 tables) (U.S.)
