Value of coincidence gamma camera PET in tumors of the thorax and abdomen and assessment of myocardial viability
Description
In this paper we report our experience of the usefulness of FDG scanning using a gamma camera equipped with coincidence detection for staging lung cancer and in the follow-up of patients with colorectal cancer. We also tested the diagnostic accuracy of cardiac FDG imaging. Our results demonstrate that, although a coincidence camera is technically inferior to a dedicated PET scanner, it may provide clinically useful results in situations were a lesion of sufficient size and FDG-uptake is to be expected. In patients with chronic ischemic cardiomyopathy coincidence PET can be introduced into clinical practice for the assessment of myocardial viability. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In dieser Arbeit stellen wir die Ergebnisse des Einsatzes einer Koinzidenz-Gammakamera beim Staging des Bronchialkarzinoms dar sowie in der Nachsorge des kolorektalen Karzinoms. Zusaetzlich stellen wir die Zuverlaessigkeit bei der Frage der Myokardvitalitaet mit FDG vergleichend zum PET-Scanner dar. Zusammenfassend laesst sich dabei festhalten, dass, obwohl die KGK technisch den dedizierten PET-Scannern unterlegen ist, klinisch relevante Ergebnisse erzielt werden koennen, vor allem bei ausreichender Herdgroesse sowie hohem Glukosestoffwechsel. Bei der Frage der Myokardvitalitaet sehen wir eine uneingeschraenkte Einsatzfaehigkeit eines solchen Systems. (orig.)Additional details
